After a long offseason, Week 1 is finally here! 7 matchups across the league in what will be a preview of the final week of the regular season. While it's still way too early to start thinking playoffs, some teams will hope that these early week matchups will help set the tone for the season and start the run to the playoffs.
All 2 Whales vs SMILF
All 2 Whales opens up the season with a matchup against SMILF, who has been a force in the league across their first two seasons. All 2 Whales used the offseason to sharpen their draft skills, as they come into this season with a preseason rank of 5th and a possible playoff berth. Meanwhile, SMILF had a similar offseason of mock drafts, with their draft skills netting them a preseason rank of 7th and a strong chance to try and make it back to the playoffs. This game can set the tone for both teams to start the season.
Leknid Lunatics vs Autodraft Bitches
Leknid Lunatics enter their first game of the season against last season's last place finisher, Autodraft Bitches. Leknid Lunatics had the opportunity to draft a strong team, drafting out of the fifth spot this season. They may be disappointed that they couldn't turn it around, entering with a preseason rank of 13th. Their saving grace in this Week 1 matchup is that Autodraft Bitches turned their second draft spot into a preseason rank of 14th. The good news for both of these teams is that one of them is guaranteed to start the season with a win, It's only up from here.
Ginger Lightning vs Captain Not-So-Morgan
Ginger Lightning is sitting atop the rankings as enter the season. A first overall pick set the tone for the season, with Ginger Lightning working their magic to get a preseason rank of 1st. Their opponent, Captain Not-So-Morgan had a little less luck in their draft position, drafting out of the 13th spot. But that spot wasn't so unlucky for Captain Not-So-Morgan, as their preseason rank of 6th should help them make some noise early on. It's an early season matchup that could have some serious ramifications in the league.
The Dictatorship vs Car Ramrod
This Week 1 matchup features two former rivals back to lock heads once again. The Dictatorship came into the draft with the twelfth pick and their chances looked a little bleak. But they made the most of the hand that was dealt to them, and The Dictatorship starts the season with a preseason rank of 4th and look poised to make a run back to the playoffs. If they had it bad, then Car Ramrod had it even worse, drafting out of the last place. While not quite as strong a showing as their Week 1 opponent, Car Ramrod also exceeded expectations, coming into the preseason at 9th. Both teams look to keep defying expectations. Which one will start the season with a win?
Witch Please vs STL House Centipedes
They say fantasy seasons are won and lost in the draft. Both of these teams will hope that is indeed the case, as they've turned their middle of the road draft positions into strong preseason rankings. Witch Please drafted in 9th, an unenviable position for some. But Witch Please took that 9th place draft position and parlayed it into a preseason rank of 3rd. STL House Centipedes drafted one spot behind in 10th and also looked destined for a middle of the road performance. But STL House Centipedes instead opens up the preseason in 2nd place. This should be a heavyweight battle between two preseason favorites and could be an early preview of some post season action.
Fowler's Heathens vs Team Pup-N-Suds
It's Week 1, so preseason doesn't mean much right now. At least that's the hope for both of these teams, who landed outside of the top six spots. Fowler's Heathens entered the draft with the 11th pick and started making some noise with their picks. The noise was turned down to a dull roar with a preseason rank of 12th. The good news for Fowler's Heathens is that there's still plenty of time to turn it around. But it may be a tall order against defending champ Team Pup-N-Suds. After a strong showing last season, Team Pup-N-Suds will look to turn that preseason rank of 7th into another contending team. It's an early season matchup between two teams looking to get going quick.
ICT FC vs Houston Dinkel
It's another Week 1 battle between two teams with a lot of prove after ending up with double digit preaseason rankings. ICT FC is coming off a 8th overall pick in the draft, but they couldn't do much with it, turning in a preseason rank of 11th. ICT FC picked one spot behind their opponent, Houston Dinkel, who had the 7th pick. Houston Dinkel also landed one spot ahead of their Week 1 opponent, starting the preseason in 10th place. These two teams already look locked into the stay close together all season. Can Week 1 give one of them some breathing room?
